清理化石不但可以舒緩壓力，而且清理的過程更能帶來無窮的樂趣。
簡單的傳統清理 ~ 可以使用鋼釘一點一滴敲下多餘的母岩，雖然費時費力，但是清理的過程比較能夠觀賞到母岩奇妙的特性。
再者機器的使用 ~ 氣動筆以及電動雕刻筆是必備的基本工具，可以有效的提昇速度縮短清理時間，最後再用粗細水砂紙研磨修飾。這樣的過程通常需要花費幾個小時，如果母岩堅硬尺寸又大，則可能耗費好幾天甚至幾個月不等。
下面這顆產自英國 ~ 葛拉佛菊石科 ( Graphoceratidae ) 的滑菊石 ( Leioceras sp. ) ，大約是十年前購自 " 胡老師 ~ 菊石的家 " 。看到劉sir 貼出礦化相當美麗的葛拉佛菊石，不禁讓阿源想起這顆早期的標本，找出來時發現臍心以及腹緣並沒什麼清理 ( 忘記先拍下相片比對 ) ~ 這下阿源肯定不會錯過機會，一定好好把它修理一頓，花費好幾小時清理之後，層次分明更有立體感… 希望看了之後會增加您對化石清理的興趣。
